AI receptionist for Launceston tradies

It answers on Launceston’s calendar, Recreation Day and Show Day included, says it’s your assistant, books the routine jobs and texts you the urgent ones.

The short answer

OffsiteMate is an AI receptionist for Launceston tradies. When you can’t get to the phone, it answers as your business, says it’s your assistant, books routine work at times you’re free and texts you the emergencies straight away. Any hour, every day, Tasmanian public holidays included.

It’s A$299 a month for a sole trader, with 100 minutes and 150 texts, plus A$299 once to set up. We’re based in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and set you up over the phone.

The ABS estimates 92,993 people lived in Launceston at 30 June 2025, and counted 994 construction businesses in the Launceston council area.

A sewer system that does two jobs

TasWater describes Launceston’s combined system as one that manages the flow of both sewage and stormwater. Under the Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan it has been upgrading pump stations, laying pipelines and building storage to cut overflows into the kanamaluka/Tamar estuary. A$129.2 million is going into the plan from the Australian and Tasmanian governments, TasWater and the City of Launceston, under the Launceston City Deal.

Next is the Launceston Sewer Transformation. TasWater says the city’s sewer network has served it for more than 100 years and is nearing capacity, so it’s consolidating seven ageing treatment plants into one upgraded plant at Ti Tree Bend.

Sewage coming up in the yard is a call a plumber wants to hear about straight away. Your assistant takes the address and what’s happening and texts it to you. If you’d like it to give out TasWater’s faults line, 13 6992, text us.

Public holidays in Launceston, 2026 and 2027

Your assistant answers on every one of them, at the same price. It only books jobs on a holiday if your hours include it.

From WorkSafe Tasmania’s public holidays page, read October 2026. Anzac Day gets no substitute day. A day on the list doesn’t automatically mean a day off or extra pay, so WorkSafe Tasmania says to check your award.

The north keeps its own days

Launceston has three holidays Hobart doesn’t. The Royal Launceston Show holiday covers Launceston and six other northern council areas. Recreation Day is for every part of the state that doesn’t take Royal Hobart Regatta Day, so Launceston gets it and Hobart doesn’t.

Launceston Cup is the odd one. WorkSafe Tasmania marks it as generally for the Tasmanian Public Service only, and in the city centre and the suburbs it names, it starts at 11am. In the rest of the area it covers, it’s all day. Your customer may or may not have the day off. Your assistant answers either way.

Who fixes what in Launceston

One company runs each network in Tasmania. Here’s where each one says its job stops and the owner’s starts.

Fault lineWhen to ring, and whose job it is
TasNetworks, power132 004, 24 hours a day, 7 days a weekRing straight away for shocks or sparking, fallen powerlines and faults affecting life support equipment. Triple zero if someone’s in danger.
Tas Gas Networks, gas1802 111, at any timeIt fixes leaks at the meter and the pipework it owns. A leak between the meter and the house, or inside it, appliances included, is the owner’s to fix with a licensed gas fitter.
TasWater, water and sewer13 6992, 24 hours a day, seven days a weekIts pipes run from the main to the connection point: the meter or the first valve near the boundary for water. For sewer, the line from the connection point to the house is the owner’s.

From TasNetworks’ contact page, Tas Gas Networks’ emergency information page, and TasWater’s contact and blockages, leaks and floods pages, read October 2026. If someone smells gas, Tas Gas Networks says to turn the gas off at the meter only if it’s safe, put out any flames and open doors and windows.

When a Launceston customer rings

  1. Pick when it answers

All your calls, or just the ones you don’t get to. It can ring your phone first and step in when you don’t pick up.

  2. It introduces itself properly

As your business, in an Australian voice. It says it’s your assistant and that the call may be recorded.

  3. It takes the job down

Who, where, what’s wrong and how urgent. Routine work gets booked into ServiceM8, Fergus, Google Calendar or Outlook when you’re free.

  4. Urgent ones come straight to you

A text first, then a call to your phone. It doesn’t transfer calls. It takes their number for you to ring back.

Licences, now with a new name on them

CBOS moved on 1 October 2026: its work is now split between Consumer Affairs Tasmania and Building Standards Tasmania. Customers check an electrician, plumber, gas-fitter or builder with Building Standards Tasmania’s Find a licensed tradesperson search, which only lists current licence holders.

Text us your licence number and your assistant will give it to anyone who asks.

Set up for your trade

A Launceston gas fitter and a Launceston gardener want different calls texted to them at night. Each trade page shows where we start.

Launceston questions

Do you have an office in Launceston?

No. We’re in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and set tradies up anywhere in Australia by phone. You keep your number, forward your calls to the assistant and never touch any software.

Yes. It answers every day, public holidays included, at the same price. WorkSafe Tasmania says that holiday is generally for the Tasmanian Public Service only, and your assistant only books jobs on the days your hours include.

Can I keep my 03 63 number?

Yes. Under the national numbering plan, Launceston landlines start (03) 63, (03) 67 or (03) 68. Your number stays with your phone company and forwards to your assistant’s own Australian mobile number. Our forwarding page has the codes for Telstra, Optus and Vodafone mobiles.

Does it change for daylight saving?

Yes. It runs on your local time. Tasmania’s daylight saving runs from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027 (Department of Premier and Cabinet), and bookings, reminders and the 9am rule for night-time texts follow the clocks.
