AI receptionist for Melbourne tradies

It picks up on Melbourne time, Cup Day included, says it’s your assistant, books the routine work and texts you the emergencies. We set it up over the phone from Wagga Wagga.

The short answer

OffsiteMate’s AI receptionist picks up for Melbourne tradies any hour, every day, Victorian public holidays included, and costs the same on all of them. It tells callers it’s your assistant, gets the job details, books routine work at times you’re free and texts you emergencies straight away.

We’re based in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and set up tradies anywhere in Australia by phone. You never touch the software, and it’s live within a few days.

It’s A$299 a month for a sole trader, with 100 minutes and 150 texts included, plus A$299 once to set up.

When a customer rings

The ABS counted 98,687 construction businesses in Greater Melbourne at 30 June 2025 (ABS Data by Region, read October 2026). Voicemail is how your customer meets the other 98,686.

  1. Your phone rings first, or it doesn’t

You choose. It can ring you and only pick up when you don’t, or answer every call.

  2. It says who it is

It answers as your business in an Australian voice, says it’s your assistant and tells callers the call may be recorded.

  3. It gets the job

Name, suburb, what’s wrong and how urgent. Routine work gets booked into ServiceM8, Fergus, Google Calendar or Outlook at a time you’re free.

  4. Emergencies come to you

It texts you straight away, then rings you. It doesn’t put calls through. It takes their number and you ring back.

Melbourne time, all year

Victoria’s daylight saving runs from 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 to 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027 (Business Victoria, read October 2026).

Your assistant goes by your local time, so bookings, reminders and the rule that a night-time text waits until 9am all follow the Victorian clock.

Wagga keeps the same time as Melbourne all year. Handy when we say we’ll ring you at 10.

Victorian public holidays, 2026 and 2027

Your assistant answers on every one of them at the same price, and only books jobs on a holiday if your hours include it. Victoria takes a day off for the footy. Hot water systems don’t.

Fault lines across Melbourne

Melbourne gets its power through five networks, its gas through three and its water from three retailers. Which one your customer needs depends on their street.

From each company’s own site and Energy Safe Victoria’s electrical and gas emergency pages, read October 2026. Not sure which power network a street is on? CitiPower and Powercor’s site has a postcode locator for all of Victoria.

Whose side of the meter?

Yarra Valley Water and South East Water draw the line at the meter. Pipes on the house side belong to the property owner and need a licensed plumber. The meter and the street side are the water company’s.

Greater Western Water says that if a plumber finds a blocked sewer is in its network, the customer may get the plumber’s fee back in full, up to A$500.

Australian Gas Networks says its emergency crews make a leak safe but don’t repair appliances or the pipework inside a home. That part goes to a licensed gasfitter.

Your assistant takes the details and texts you anything urgent. Want it to point callers to one of these lines too? Text us and we’ll set it up.

Licences, and who checks them

Energy Safe Victoria licenses and registers every electrical tradesperson in Victoria. Plumbers and gasfitters are licensed by the Building and Plumbing Commission, which also registers builders. That’s the name the Victorian Building Authority trades under now.

Both keep a public register customers can search. Your assistant answers from what you’ve told us, so send us your licence number and it can give it to anyone who asks.

Energy Safe tells customers to insist on a Certificate of Electrical Safety when the job’s done. If you want the assistant to mention yours, tell us what to say.

Melbourne tradies ask us

Do you have an office in Melbourne?

No. We’re based in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and set up tradies anywhere in Australia by phone. Ring us on 0468 075 000 and a human answers.

Does it answer on Melbourne Cup Day?

Yes. It answers on every Victorian public holiday at the same price, Cup Day and Grand Final Friday included. It only books jobs on a holiday if your hours include it.

Is it a virtual receptionist?

The AI kind. It answers as your business in an Australian voice and says it’s your assistant. People set it up and read what it says, and that’s us.

Can I keep my 03 number?

Yes. 03 is the landline area code for most of Victoria, Tasmania and parts of southern NSW, and your number stays with your phone company. It forwards to your assistant’s own Australian mobile number. A landline or phone system forwards differently to a mobile, so ring us and we’ll sort it out with you and your provider.

How much does an AI receptionist cost in Melbourne?

Ours costs the same anywhere in Australia: A$299 a month for a sole trader, with 100 minutes and 150 texts included, plus A$299 to set up. No GST added, month to month.
