AI receptionist for Devonport tradies

When you’re on a job and can’t answer, it picks up as your business, tells callers it’s your assistant and puts the routine work in your diary. Urgent calls get texted to you.

The short answer

OffsiteMate’s AI receptionist answers Devonport tradies’ phones on Tasmanian time. It tells callers it’s your assistant and books the routine jobs. An emergency gets texted to you straight away, then it rings you.

For a sole trader it’s A$299 a month, which covers 100 minutes and 150 texts, and A$299 once for setup. We’re over in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and get Devonport tradies going by phone. You don’t change your number.

Devonport also has two local holidays most of Tasmania doesn’t get, and a council check on stormwater connections that sends owners to their local plumber.

Devonport’s own days off

On top of the statewide list, WorkSafe Tasmania lists three regional holidays that cover Devonport. Your assistant works all three. It doesn’t get invited to the Cup anyway.

  • Devonport Cup, half a day in January

Wednesday 7 January 2026 and Wednesday 6 January 2027. Half a day in the Devonport council area, and generally for the Tasmanian State Service only.

  • Recreation Day, first Monday in November

Monday 2 November 2026 and Monday 1 November 2027, for every part of Tasmania that doesn’t take the Royal Hobart Regatta holiday. That includes Devonport.

  • Devonport Show, late November

Friday 27 November 2026 and Friday 26 November 2027, across the Devonport, Kentish and Latrobe council areas.

From WorkSafe Tasmania’s public holidays page, read October 2026. It says a day on the list doesn’t automatically mean a day off or extra pay; that depends on the award or agreement.

Tasmanian public holidays, 2026 and 2027

The phone gets answered on all of these and nothing costs extra. A job only gets booked on one if your hours say you’re working.

Same clock changes as Wagga

Tasmania uses daylight saving, and since April 2008 it has changed its clocks on the same Sundays as NSW, Victoria, the ACT and South Australia (Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet). This season runs from 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 to 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027.

So the gap between Devonport and us in Wagga never moves. Your assistant works to your hours on your clock, and the 9am hold on night-time texts follows the change by itself.

Whose job is it?

Each network draws its own line at the property. Text us if you want your assistant to point callers to one of these.

From each organisation’s own pages, read 13 October 2026. TasWater says stormwater is the local council’s job, except where stormwater and sewer share one system.

In Tasmania, a blocked sewer starts with the plumber

TasWater tells customers with a sewer blockage to ring their plumber first. If the plumber finds the problem is in TasWater’s pipes, the customer rings 13 6992 and TasWater sends someone to look.

Plumbers need TasWater’s permission before touching its infrastructure, and it won’t pay for repairs it didn’t authorise. When it does authorise one, it will consider reimbursing the work.

For a hidden leak on the property, TasWater may refund up to 50% of the water usage above the average bill, once per ownership, with written proof that a licensed plumber fixed it.

Blocked sewers keep their own hours. Your assistant takes that first call and texts you if it’s an emergency.

Devonport council is checking where the stormwater goes

Devonport City Council says it’s investigating illegal stormwater connections into the sewer system, with smoke and dye testing and CCTV. When it finds one, it issues a notice that stays on the property’s title until the problem is fixed.

Owners who aren’t sure how their property is connected are told to contact their local plumber. Council says a common sign is a roof downpipe pointing into the sewer gully trap, and the risk is sewage backing up into the house or yard in heavy rain. There are no fines at this stage.

Altering an existing stormwater or sewer drain needs plumbing approval, and council’s plumbing surveyor needs at least two working days’ notice to book an inspection.

A call about a council notice can usually wait for a booking. Your assistant can ask whether there’s a notice and book you in to look. Text us if you want that question added.

Checking a Tasmanian licence, under its new name

From 1 October 2026, the work of Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) moved to Consumer Affairs Tasmania and Building Standards Tasmania. Building Standards Tasmania now runs the Find a licensed tradesperson search for electricians, plumbers, gas fitters and builders. It only shows current licence holders.

Devonport City Council points owners to that search for checking a plumber.

Send us your licence number and your assistant will read it out to any customer who asks.

577 construction businesses, one show day

The three council areas that share the Devonport Show holiday had 577 construction businesses between them at 30 June 2025: 337 in Devonport, 169 in Latrobe (Tas.) and 71 in Kentish (ABS Data by Region, read October 2026).

The Devonport urban area had 32,938 people at 30 June 2025 (ABS estimate). The council counts wider: it says 70,000 people live within 35 km of the CBD.

A wide patch can mean more calls ringing out while you drive. Your assistant picks those up and books routine jobs into ServiceM8, Fergus, Google Calendar or Outlook.

Set up for your trade

A sparky out on a farm job and a cleaner in town want different calls coming through as texts. Each trade page shows our starting point.

What it costs

Devonport pays what Wagga pays. Your plan depends on how many people work in the business.

Devonport questions

Do you have an office in Devonport?

No. We’re in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and we do every setup over the phone, wherever you work. You keep your number, forward your calls to the assistant and never touch any software.

Does it answer on Devonport Show Day?

Yes, and on Recreation Day and the Devonport Cup half-day, at no extra cost. It stays off your diary those days unless your hours say you’re working.

Is Devonport Cup Day a holiday for my business?

WorkSafe Tasmania lists it as a half-day holiday in the Devonport council area, generally for the Tasmanian State Service only. It says to check your award, agreement or the National Employment Standards, or ring the Fair Work Ombudsman on 13 13 94.

Can I keep my 03 number?

Yes. Devonport landlines are 03 numbers, and the national numbering plan gives the Devonport district local numbers starting 64 or 65. You forward yours to your assistant’s own Australian mobile number. Office phone systems forward in their own ways, so ring us on 0468 075 000 and we’ll go through it with you and your provider.

How much does an AI receptionist cost in Devonport?

A sole trader pays A$299 a month for 100 minutes and 150 texts, plus A$299 to set up. Teams of 2 to 4 pay A$449 a month and teams of 5 to 10 pay A$799, with A$499 to set up. We don’t add GST, and it’s month to month.
