Ergon asks customers who’ve lost power, or whose hot water has gone cold, to ring 13 22 96 before they ring an electrician.
For a cold hot water system, Ergon can give the customer an approval number for an electrician to look at it. If the fault turns out to be on Ergon’s network, the electrician claims up to A$250 before GST from Ergon, including up to an hour’s travel, and the customer isn’t charged. The cap is the same after hours.
Without that number, or if the fault is on the property’s side, the customer pays the whole bill. Ergon doesn’t pay for loss of supply call-outs at all, because its own crews go first.
So a sparky might want the assistant to ask cold-water callers whether they’ve rung Ergon yet. Text us and we’ll add the question. Anyone in danger gets told to hang up and ring triple zero.
