Business Victoria says Melbourne Cup Day is a holiday across Victoria unless a council outside Melbourne has arranged a local holiday instead. Greater Shepparton isn’t on its lists of those local holidays for 2025 or 2026 (last updated 3 August 2026), so Tuesday 3 November 2026 is a public holiday in Shepparton and Mooroopna.
Moira Shire is on the 2026 list, with a full-day holiday for the Numurkah District on Wednesday 21 October. If your jobs take you there, tell us which days you work.

GVW tells customers who suspect a blocked sewer to ring its Faults and Emergencies team, 24 hours, 7 days. Its operators help work out whether it’s the property’s plumbing or GVW’s pipes.
GVW is generally responsible from the sewer main to the first inspection shaft, or one metre from the property boundary, whichever is less. A blockage in the home is a job for a licensed plumber.
When a plumber attends and finds the blockage is in GVW’s area, GVW says it will reimburse reasonable costs of finding and clearing it. Its fact sheet sets out the limits.
The meter belongs to GVW, but the owner looks after it. If it’s damaged, whatever the cause, the owner has to get a plumber to repair it. Normal wear and tear is GVW’s.
Energy Safe Victoria licenses and registers every electrical worker in Victoria. Its public registers include a licensed electrical worker search, a register of electrical contractors and a Certificate of Electrical Safety search.
Plumbers and builders are checked with the Building and Plumbing Commission, which is the name the Victorian Building Authority trades under now.
