Telstra call forwarding codes
Your missed calls can go somewhere more useful than voicemail. Here are Telstra’s codes to turn forwarding on, check it and turn it off, plus the MessageBank and iPhone catches that stop it working.
The short answer
To forward every call on a Telstra mobile, dial **21*04XXXXXXXX*11# and press call, with the number you’re forwarding to in place of 04XXXXXXXX. To forward only the calls you miss, dial three codes: **61*04XXXXXXXX*11#, then **62*04XXXXXXXX*11#, then **67*04XXXXXXXX*11#.
To turn it off, dial ## and the same two digits, then #: ##21#, ##61#, ##62# or ##67#. Telstra’s device help also gives ##002#, which cancels every divert at once, MessageBank included.
Telstra says forwarding is included on plans with unlimited calls. The codes look like someone sat on the keypad. They do work, and every one here comes from Telstra’s own help pages, read on 12 October 2026. Telstra can change them.
The Telstra mobile codes
Swap 04XXXXXXXX for the full number you’re forwarding to, area code included. Dial each code like a phone number and press call.
| Turn it on | Check it | Turn it off | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Every call (your phone doesn’t ring) | **21*04XXXXXXXX*11# | *#21# | ##21# |
| Only the calls you miss: dial all three | |||
| You don’t answer within 15 seconds | **61*04XXXXXXXX*11# | *#61# | ##61# |
| Your phone is off or out of coverage | **62*04XXXXXXXX*11# | *#62# | ##62# |
| You’re already on a call | **67*04XXXXXXXX*11# | *#67# | ##67# |
| By text, and back to MessageBank | |||
| Every call, by text to 144 | CFU ON 04XXXXXXXX | CFU Status | CFU OFF |
| Missed calls back to MessageBank | **004*101# | *#61#, *#62# or *#67# | ##004# |
Codes from Telstra’s “How do I forward calls on my mobile?” help page (Telstra Small Business support), read 12 October 2026. Telstra can change them, so if one doesn’t work, check that page.
Set it up, then test it
Better to find out now than from a customer who got voicemail.
Have the number ready
The full number you’re forwarding to, area code and all. For a mobile, that’s the 10 digits starting 04.
Dial the codes with mobile coverage
Open the keypad, enter the code and press call. For missed calls only, do all three: 61, 62 and 67. Do it on the Telstra mobile network, not over Wi-Fi Calling.
Check each one
Dial *#21#, *#61#, *#62# and *#67#. Your phone shows whether each one is on.
Ring yourself from another phone
Let it ring out: after about 15 seconds it should land where you sent it. Ring again while you’re on another call, then once more with flight mode on and Wi-Fi off. All three should end up in the same place.
Where to send your missed calls
Forwarding only helps if something useful happens at the other end. Sending missed calls to a mate who’s also under a house just moves the problem.
You can send them to an offsider’s mobile, the office landline, a human answering service, an AI receptionist, or back to MessageBank. Telstra’s terms say a service connected on or after 8 October 2003 can’t forward to an overseas number, so pick somewhere with an Australian one.
Ours is one of those. Your assistant gets its own Australian mobile number, and you forward to it with these same codes. It answers as your business, says it’s your assistant, books the routine jobs and texts you the urgent ones.
What forwarding costs on Telstra
Telstra says call forwarding is included in all plans with unlimited calls.
Telstra’s Upfront and prepaid terms count a forwarded call as a standard call when it goes to an 04 mobile or an 02, 03, 07 or 08 landline. Upfront plans and Pre-Paid Mobile recharges have unlimited standard calls, and Telstra’s prepaid summary lists diverted calls as included. Pre-Paid Casual comes with 55 to 360 minutes of calls, used in 30-second blocks, so check how far yours stretch.
The person ringing pays what they’d normally pay to call you. On a plan without unlimited calls, check the fine print: Telstra’s customer terms list a charge per 30 seconds for forwarded calls.
From Telstra’s forwarding help page, its Upfront and Pre-Paid Mobile service terms, its prepaid summary from 5 May 2026 and Our Customer Terms (Mobile, Part F), read October 2026.
MessageBank and forwarding
On a Telstra mobile, MessageBank works through the same three missed-call settings: no answer, unreachable and busy. Point those at another number and your missed calls go there instead of MessageBank.
To send them back to MessageBank, dial **004*101#. To stop them going to MessageBank, dial ##004#. Telstra says both reset the wait to 15 seconds.
If your phone has Message2Txt instead of MessageBank, Telstra’s terms say forwarding to another number takes priority over it.
On an iPhone
Telstra says iPhones have used Apple’s Live Voicemail by default since iOS 18. With it on, the phone rings for 15 seconds, and a call you miss or reject is saved on the phone, not in MessageBank.
Neither Telstra nor Apple says how that sits with forwarding to another number, so test it. If missed calls end up in your iPhone’s voicemail, turn Live Voicemail off: Settings, Apps, Phone, Live Voicemail. Telstra says it has to be off for the phone to ring longer than 15 seconds, too.
Apple says that with Silence Unknown Callers on, unknown numbers go straight to Live Voicemail without ringing. A new customer isn’t in your contacts yet.
The Call Forwarding switch in Settings (Apps, Phone, Call Forwarding) sends every call on. For missed calls only, Apple says to ask your phone company, which on Telstra means the keypad codes. Telstra recommends the codes over phone menus anyway.
Apple also blocks links that ask you to turn on call forwarding, because scammers use them. Dial the codes yourself.
When calls don’t go where you sent them
- Only half of it is on. Turning off ##21# leaves the three missed-call codes running, and the other way round. Check each with *#21#, *#61#, *#62# and *#67#.
- You set it up on Wi-Fi. Telstra says Wi-Fi Calling only forwards on the settings you already had, so make changes with Telstra mobile coverage. Apple says the iPhone’s switch needs mobile coverage too.
- Missed calls still land in voicemail on an iPhone. Check Live Voicemail and Silence Unknown Callers.
- You tried to make it ring longer. Telstra says the wait can be 15, 20, 25 or 30 seconds, but its code for that, **61*101**30#, points unanswered calls at MessageBank (101). It doesn’t publish one for any other number, so ask Telstra first.
- You cancelled everything with ##002#. That takes MessageBank off too. **004*101# puts it back.
Forwarding a Telstra home phone
Telstra’s nbn home phone uses different codes. Lift the handset, wait for the dial tone, dial the code, then hang up.
| Turn it on | Turn it off | |
|---|---|---|
| Every call | *21, then 04XXXXXXXX, then # | #21# |
| When you’re on the phone | *24, then 04XXXXXXXX, then # | #24# |
| When nobody answers | *61, then 04XXXXXXXX, then # | #61# |
From Telstra’s “Forward calls to another number” home phone page, read 12 October 2026. It says no-answer forwarding starts “after a length of time you choose” without saying how to set it. Telstra’s office phone page lists call forward on Business Voice and Business SIP lines but gives no codes, so ask Telstra. A Telstra business mobile uses the mobile codes above.
Telstra call forwarding questions
How do I forward calls on Telstra?
On a Telstra mobile, dial **21*04XXXXXXXX*11# to forward every call. For only the calls you miss, dial **61*04XXXXXXXX*11#, **62*04XXXXXXXX*11# and **67*04XXXXXXXX*11#. Texting CFU ON 04XXXXXXXX to 144 also forwards every call.
How do I turn off call forwarding on Telstra?
Dial ##21# for every call, or ##61#, ##62# and ##67# for missed calls. Texting CFU OFF to 144 also stops it. ##002# cancels every divert, MessageBank included, and **004*101# brings MessageBank back.
Why won’t my Telstra call forwarding turn off?
Check whether one of the four is still on: dial *#21#, *#61#, *#62# and *#67#, or cancel the lot with ##002#. Make the change with Telstra mobile coverage, because Telstra says forwarding settings can’t be changed over Wi-Fi Calling.
How do I set up call forwarding on my iPhone with Telstra?
Use the keypad codes, which Telstra recommends over phone menus. Then test it. If missed calls land in your iPhone’s voicemail, turn Live Voicemail off.
Does Telstra charge for call forwarding?
Telstra says it’s included on plans with unlimited calls. Its Upfront and prepaid terms count forwarding to an 04 mobile or an 02, 03, 07 or 08 landline as a standard call. On a plan without unlimited calls, Telstra’s customer terms list a charge per 30 seconds, so check yours.
How do I forward my Telstra home phone to my mobile?
Lift the handset, dial *21, then your mobile number, then #, and hang up. #21# turns it off. For busy only it’s *24, and for no answer it’s *61.
Can I make my phone ring longer before it forwards?
Telstra says the wait can go from 15 up to 30 seconds, but the only code it publishes for that points calls at MessageBank. Ask Telstra for the version for your number. On an iPhone, Live Voicemail has to be off too.
