West Wodonga is the big residential suburb along Melrose Drive, on the western side of Wodonga.
Before 1972 it was mostly scattered homes on the road out to a drive-in. The Albury-Wodonga Development Project changed that through the 1970s and 80s, bringing four new schools in six years and the Birallee shopping centre on Melrose Drive in 1985.
At the 2021 Census West Wodonga had 5,693 occupied homes. 88% were separate houses, a third were being paid off and 32% were rented.
Homes built during the 1970s and 80s growth may be due for circuit breakers and safety switches. In Victoria the new board is inspected before it goes live, and Tomo books the inspector.
